This study explored the collaboration of general and special education teachers in educating learners with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at three (3) selected elementary schools in Chicago, Illinois, USA, during the school year 2023-2024. This is a phenomenological inquiry of the ten purposively selected participants who answered the researcher-made semi-structured questionnaire that contained four (4) open-ended questions. Findings showed that in terms of the participants' views about the various collaboration models Implemented in educating learners with autism, the following were the emerging themes: 1) Team Teaching Collaboration, 2) Support Mechanisms on Demand, and 3) Structured Consultation Session. The impact of teacher collaboration on learners with autism academic outcomes were: 1) Enhanced Communication Abilities; 2) Active School Involvement; and 3) Self-sufficiency Development. The barriers encountered to effective collaboration were 1) Challenges in Communication, 2) Support and Policy from the Administration, and 3) Scheduling and Time Limitations. Thus, the general and special education teachers should intensify their collaboration and address the identified challenges. It is further recommended that a quantitative parallel study be conducted to validate and quantify the impacts of teacher collaboration strategies on the academic outcomes of learners with ASD.
John Lester Gaviola, Genelyn Lacuña, Sharmaine Manigos Copyright (c) 2024 John Lester Gaviola, Genelyn Lacuña, Sharmaine Manigos https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 https://journals.researchsynergypress.com/index.php/aqr/article/view/2256 Tue, 09 Jul 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Exploring Repeat Substance Abuse in Female Offenders: A Phenomenological Study https://journals.researchsynergypress.com/index.php/aqr/article/view/2453
Substance abuse relapse contributes to the Philippines' ongoing problem. Stigmatization and a lack of appropriate aftercare services impede the development of crucial skills for successful reintegration into society. To address the essential issue of relapse from substance addiction, this study seeks to provide information specific to the issues that lead to repeat substance abuse in female offenders. The nation's rising relapse rates and the serious implications of their acts highlight the importance of this study. To prevent relapse and enhance rehabilitation, it is critical to identify and address the underlying causes. Utilizing Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), eight (8) repeat substance abuse female offenders ages 38-53 years old who were jailed twice for substance abuse in Calamba City, Laguna, Philippines, were asked using a semi-structured interview. This study generated ten (10) themes which were: Longing for Loved Ones, Strict Protocols, Difficult Tasks, and Unappetizing Foods; Therapeutic Programs; Mixed Emotions, Family Reintegration, Working Habits; Negative Labeling, Insufficient Support from Family and/or Peers; Physical and Mental Well-Being; Livelihood and Socialization; Positivity and Resilience; Dealing with Relapse; Family Problem and Acquaintances; and Lack of Psychological Support. Consequently, an improved diversion program was created to help prevent the relapse of female drug re-offenders after being released from jail.
Shar Ainie A Serapion Copyright (c) 2024 Shar Ainie A Serapion https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 https://journals.researchsynergypress.com/index.php/aqr/article/view/2453 Fri, 27 Sep 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Uncovering Reflective Practices of Educators In Teaching and Learning Process: a Phenomenological Study from Elementary School in The Philippines https://journals.researchsynergypress.com/index.php/aqr/article/view/2623
Recent PISA results consistently show that 15-year-old students in the Philippines are five (5) to six (6) years behind in critical competencies, including mathematics, science, and reading—issues that predate the pandemic. Given teachers' enormous influence on students' academic success, the efficacy of their teaching tactics is becoming increasingly important. The advent of the epidemic and adjusting to a new normal posed significant hurdles to established information transfer techniques. This study investigates the reflective practices of educators at Los Baños Central Elementary School, Philippines, analyzing the evolution of these practices across three key periods: pre-pandemic, during the pandemic, and in the post-pandemic "new normal." It further examines the integration of three distinct learning modalities employed during the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 academic years. Additionally, the study emphasizes the importance of ongoing reflection by educators on their instructional methods to more effectively meet the needs of their students. To fully understand self-worth and life satisfaction from their perspectives, their past experiences, present circumstances and plans were discussed. Seven (7) incarcerated mothers who gave birth from years 2020-2024, ranging from 20-35 years old, were interviewed. The theories utilized were Self-Worth Theory and Life Satisfaction as an aspect of Subjective Well-being. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis was used, wherein the participants were interviewed via semi-structured interview guide questions. This study generated 11 superordinate themes which mainly centered on their education, career, status, children and family. From these findings, the author came up with supplemental programs, otherwise collectively called the MAC Program, that could help the incarcerated mothers, their children, their families and the jail authorities, both while the PDLs were in jail and after being re-integrated into their communities. It is a holistic program which includes activities for Psychological Wellbeing and Mental Health Services; Educational Assessment and Career Development; Family Support System; and Motherhood and Parenting Support Program. Investigating the self-worth and life satisfaction of the female PDLs can help assess how to better manage the PDLs as well as avoid re-incarceration. Equipping the female PDLs with the proper knowledge, skills, and behaviour can help them and their families live a better and renewed life once they get released from the jail facilities.
Ciara Maricar M Tan Copyright (c) 2024 Ciara Maricar M Tan https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 https://journals.researchsynergypress.com/index.php/aqr/article/view/2502 Mon, 30 Sep 2024 00:00:00 +0700
