Focus and Scope

The Journal of Halal Science, Industry, and Business (JHASIB) is an international, peer-reviewed scholarly journal dedicated to the dissemination, development, and critical discussion of knowledge on halal as a multidisciplinary field of study.

JHASIB provides a platform for researchers, scholars, and practitioners to advance halal-related research by publishing original studies and critical reviews that strengthen the understanding of halal integrity, innovation, governance, and their applications across industries and markets. The journal positions halal as a comprehensive system, encompassing scientific validation, quality and safety assurance, standards and certification, industrial processes, governance, and consumer trust, and welcomes contributions from diverse disciplines, provided that the study demonstrates a clear and substantive relevance to halal-related questions, challenges, or developments.

To maintain coherence and specialization, JHASIB is organized into three major sections:

  1. Halal Science

This section publishes research on the scientific, technical, and material dimensions of halal. It covers studies that examine the composition, authenticity, safety, functionality, and development of halal-related materials, ingredients, products, and processes.

Topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • Halal authentication and detection methods
  • Food science, nutrition, and food safety
  • Biomolecular, chemical, and microbiological analysis
  • Natural products and bioactive compounds
  • Biotechnology and laboratory-based innovation relevant to halal applications
  • Plant-based, animal-based, marine-based, microbial, or synthetic alternatives for halal ingredients and materials
  • Pharmaceutical, biomedical, cosmetic, and health-related products with explicit halal relevance
  • Process evaluation, formulation, and product development for halal-compliant applications
  1. Halal Industries

This section focuses on the institutional, regulatory, operational, and implementation dimensions of halal across industrial sectors. It addresses how halal principles are translated into standards, certification systems, production practices, supply arrangements, and sectoral development.

Topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • Halal certification, assurance, and auditing systems
  • Halal standards, regulation, policy, and governance
  • Halal supply chains, logistics, and traceability
  • Halal industry implementation in food, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, hospitality, and related sectors
  • Halal-tayyib practices in production and processing systems
  • Quality assurance, risk, compliance, and integrity management
  • Sustainability, ethics, and environmental dimensions of halal industry development
  • Comparative and international studies on halal institutional practice
  1. Halal Business

This section publishes studies on the economic, managerial, behavioral, and market dimensions of halal. It emphasizes how halal operates in entrepreneurship, branding, consumer markets, service sectors, and business strategy.

Topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • Halal entrepreneurship and innovation
  • Consumer behavior, perception, trust, and satisfaction
  • Halal branding, marketing, and communication
  • Pricing, market strategy, and business performance
  • SMEs and halal market development
  • Halal tourism, hospitality, and service management
  • Digital business and market expansion in halal sectors
  • Social, cultural, and economic perspectives on halal consumption and exchange

JHASIB particularly welcomes interdisciplinary studies that connect these three domains and contribute to a more integrated understanding of halal as a field of knowledge and practice. Submissions should clearly explain how the study contributes to halal scholarship, whether through scientific evidence, industry analysis, policy insight, or business application.
